Learn Spanish and don't end up in jail

There are many reasons for studying Spanish. For example, you can use it for your work, communicate with locals when you are on holiday in Spain or South America and it can be useful when you want to understand interesting Spanish songs and movies. When you learn Spanish, a whole new world opens for you. Well, I got news for you: it also can prevent you from ending up in jail. Don't blame me if it's a made up story, but there is a funny rumour going on the internet.

Last week a Spanish guy was arrested in Holland. He was flying from Amsterdam to Madrid. A stewardess alarmed the crew when she heard the Spanish guy talking about ‘bombas’. The plane, which was already in the sky, returned to Amsterdam immediately and policemen arrested the Spanish suspect.

But now, on Dutch websites, the funny story goes that the Spaniard worked at a company that sells ‘bombas de alta presión’, or in English: high pressure pumps. The thing is that the Spanish language consists of words with many significances. That's also the case with the word ‘bomba’. Besides ‘bomb’, it also means ‘light bowl’ and ‘injection’. But unfortunately our Iberian suspect, the stewardess only heard the first word and took action. So if you sell pumps, injections or light bowls in your daily life, don't speak about your work at airports and planes. Have a good flight.
